Hello again everyone!  I just wanted to quickly post to give you an update that we will be starting a long unit on addition and subtraction in math this week.  Tomorrow we will start talking about adding numbers and some strategies that can help us.  We will mix it up and talk a bit about subtraction and strategies on Tuesday.  In the days and weeks that follow, we will begin a new sequence to master our basic facts.  To begin, we will talk about "plus one, minus one."  Parents, please be sure to help your little firsties learn their math facts as knowing them will truly give them a tremendous advantage as they move forward in both first grade and the remainder of elementary school as well. Please check out the website on our LINKS page and contact me if you are looking for additional ways to help your child at home.  Thank you for your support at home!!

Thanksgiving Break

Hello Ridge Families!  I hope that you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving Break!!  Did anyone do any traveling during the extra few days off from school?  What were some of your new favorite memories from break?  James and I had fun visiting with a friend and eating lots of delicious food.  James ate up macaroni and cheese, stuffing, turkey, broccoli, carrots, AND mashed potatoes!  He certainly is a hungry boy!  We spent the rest of our break decorating our house for Christmas -- well, I decorated!  James tried to pull everything down as soon as it went up!  Tell me all about your Thanksgiving Break in the comments below!

Place Value Houses

Our class has been working on place value in math over the last week.  Students are learning how to count base ten blocks, identify the place that numbers are in, and find the value of the digits as well.  On Friday, we used base ten blocks to build houses.  Students worked together to find the value of the homes that they made.  Tomorrow, the children will work independently to create their own place value houses and find out how much they are worth to demonstrate their understanding of the topic.

Hello again Ridge Families!  I know that this is coming to you much too long after our trips, but I still wanted to be sure to share them with you.  Our class had an AMAZING time at Maymont Park and enjoyed a fun lesson with Young Scientists just a few days after that.  Check out some of our fun pictures!

SO many of the amazing students in Room 10 were able to move their clips OFF THE CHART on Friday!  I am so incredibly proud of how hard these wonderful children worked!!  They were fantastic listeners and workers during our Young Scientist lesson, rotated and completed centers like pros, and earned two green cups in the lunch room too!  We enjoyed an extra 15 minutes of outdoor recess and Mrs. Hatfield gave a special shout out to our entire class during afternoon announcements as rewards for making such excellent choices!  On Monday morning, students will be able to choose their "blinged out" clip to put on display on our "Wall of Fame" outside our door.  I'll be sure to post pictures when our display is all ready!
